Situation

MSPJV, an international consortium, were contracted by Energy to design and build the Te Mihi Geothermal power station, the largest geothermal power station in NZ.  There were several unique requirements that called for a bespoke control system to be designed and built and installed.  This was the largest hydraulic project in NZ for several years.

Solution

Progressive designed and built two power packs to control all aspects of the 166MW station, and 3 power packs to control the steam field that supplies it.  The design incorporated double and triple redundancy for maximum security, using the latest Profibus control systems throughout.  The Progressive team were also contracted to design and install some 2.8km of stainless piping throughout the Te Mihi station and steam field. 

The client could not source gravity close actuators that met the unique torque requirements of the emergency valves that protect the station and personnel. Progressive were engaged to design, manufacture and supply 4 actuators.  These were extensively tested by the client in all extremes to ensure 100% reliability and came through with flying colours.

All components of the project were designed and manufactured in house in Progressives modern, Precision  CNC workshop
